Companies striving to deliver superior quality injected molded products are aware that the moisture content of their resins feeds is absolutely critical to product quality.
Correct moisture content in your plastic resin feeds affects your product quality in two ways:
- Moisture content above the recommended percentage may deliver a part that "looks good" but can easily break or otherwise fail.
- Continued heating after reaching the recommended moisture content will degrade the resins. This can lead to dull and brittle parts.
These points are examined in detail in our article How to Select a Moisture Analyzer for Low-Moisture Plastic Resins

IL 50 models are very easy to use and offer an economical choice for QC testing of moisture in many types of samples. They dry samples at one standard heating rate. The IL 50 models come with a carrying case and test weight for calibration.
An example of where this model is employed is in our article on moisture analysis in grain and flour.
Other moisture content requirements or recommendations may call for lower content. As an example where extremely low moisture content is required see our article on moisture analysis for powdered milk.
For samples that require more control over the heating profile, the XM 60 offers three different drying profiles: Standard, Boost, and Soft. It is an excellent choice for accurate testing of a broad range of product types.
- Boost drying is well suited to samples with high moisture content. In this mode the bulk of the moisture is removed quickly, shortening the analysis time.
- Gentle drying is preferred for substances that may decompose upon initial exposure to full heating or for samples that form a skin.
